SMALL MOONG DAL SAMOSAS OR POTLI
Ingredients
refined flour 1 cup
salt 1/2 tsp
oil 12 tbsp
water
For Filling:
moong dal 1 cup
ghee 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
hing a pinch
Garam masala 1/4 tsp
Chilli powder 1/4 tsp
saunf crushed 1/4 tsp
Coriander powder 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
amchur 1/4 tsp
Method
- Add the salt to the flour, and rub the oil into it.
- Add water and knead into a stiff dough. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
- Grind the moong dal coarsely into mixer grinder. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds and hing.
- When they begin to splutter, add dal and rest of the ingredients of filling.
- Saute over low heat till the mixture is well fried. It will stop sticking to the pan when done.
- Remove mixture from heat and keep aside to cool.
- Knead the dough again till smooth and soft .
- Shape dough into very small balls, and roll the balls into thin rounds like chapatis . Cut these into halves.
- Take one half, wet the edges, and fold the straight edge at the center and join by one half overlapping the other to form into a cone.
- Press the overlapping portion, and take 1 tsp dal filling and fill the cone and press the edges together to seal.
- The oil should be hot when you add the samosas to it, then lower the heat and let cook till brown.
- You can also give shape of potli.
