Ingredient

For usal
mixed sprouts        2 cup
potatoes                 2
onion large            1
green chilli            1-2
rai.                         1 tsp
jeera.                     1 tsp
ginger chopped     1/2 tsp
kadi patta.             10-12
goda masala.         1 tbsp
haldi.                     1/2 tsp
red chilli powder   1/2 tsp
coriander powder  1 tsp
cumin powder       1 tsp
tamarind or imli.   1/2 cup
oil.                         3 tbsp
salt.                        as required

For misal
pav.                         8-10
onion chopped        1/2 cup
tomato chopped      1/2 cup
sev or farsan.          1/2 cup
lemon juice             1 tbsp
coriander chopped  1 tbsp

Method

  1. Pressure cook the sprouts and cubed potatoes with 1/4 tsp haldi,salt and 1-2 cup water as required.Cook it for 2-3 whistles.
  2. Soak the tamarind in 1/2 cup water for 25-30 minutes.
  3. Squeeze the tamarind and extract the pulp. Keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan,add rai and jeera ,when they splitter ,add chopped onion and saute till translucent.
  5. Then add chopped ginger,green chilli and curry leaves.
  6. Add remaining 1/2 tsp haldi,coriander powder,cumin powder,red chilli powder and goda masala.
  7. Stir and add the tamarind pulp.
  8. Drain the pressure cooked sprouts and potatoes and add them to the tamarind pulp.
  9. Stir and add water if required.
  10. Add salt and simmer it for 8-10 minutes on low flame.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Assembling of misal pav


  1. Take the usal in 3-4 individual bowl.
  2. In each bowl of usal,first add the chopped onion and tomato,then squeeze few drops of lemon juice.
  3. Then top usal with chopped coriander.
  4. Top it with sev or mix farsan.
  5. Serve this misal bowl with pav buns and slice of lemon and chopped onion.
